For highly skilled young individuals who wish to start a new life in another country, one popular destination is Australia, which has a strong economic status. The immigration of skilled workers is actively encouraged in this country. The points-based system is used for assessing those who desire to work in Australia. In this case, the skilled worker applicant and skilled migrant can use their work experience, language proficiency and other qualifications in order to satisfy the requirements for Australia immigration, as these criteria will be given particular points. There are other ways to obtain Australia immigration visas, including the Humanitarian Programmes and the Australian Family Migration.

In the years 2007 to 2008, there were approximately 152,800 places that the Migration Programme of Australia provided, with 102,500 of those under skilled migration, like the Australian Skilled Independent visa.

For those individuals who don’t have employers to sponsor them, the General Skilled Migration (GSM) programme can be considered, as long as the necessary skills that Australia needs to fill its labour shortages are possessed by the applicant. Only those over the age of 18 and under the age of 45, and who are capable of speaking good English can be considered qualified applicants. Recently, there have been modifications in the GSM programme. For those who can speak very good English, more points are added.

In certain cases when an applicant fails to reach the qualifying points, he should not be totally disappointed, as he can be placed in the reserve pool. In the future, this type of applicant may be considered if the required points in Australia Immigration are lowered.
