Moving to the United States of America

When you’ve made the decision to settle in the USA you may want to know more about what it will be like to live across the Atlantic Ocean. Perhaps you’ve been to the country often and are familiar with the lifestyle, or have only visited on occasion and are more familiar with the way America is portrayed in film and on TV.

Even if you consider yourself an experienced traveller of the United States, actually living there permanently will still come as something of a shock for most. As close as the UK and USA are to each other (culturally rather than geographically) the fact remains that the USA is a different country and you are likely to find that a different way of life applies.

So how can you make sure that you’re as prepared as possible? First, it’ll be a good idea to read up on the USA as much as possible. This should go further than travel guides – read about the country’s history, its geography, its political figures. Find out what makes each State different and unique, and how the States came to be unified. It might be worthwhile going to the library and digging out as much fiction and non-fiction as you can about the American way of life.

Of course applying for your Visa as soon as possible, getting your vaccinations, and researching where and how you will live when you get to the USA are all important. Preparing yourself as much as possible for the adventure of US immigration will mean you can enjoy it even more when you do arrive – and will mean that you settle into your new life more easily.

Canadian Visa application

Thousands of people immigrate to Canada every year, from all over the world. If you’ve decided that Canada is the place for you, there are a few things you’ll want to consider.

The Canadian Citizenship and Immigration service delineates the main groups of people who move to Canada, so take a look through the list and see where you fit in:

  • Skilled workers and professionals who want to settle and work in Canada
  • People selected by the Quebec government to settle and work in Canada
  • People who have recent experience of working in Canada and wish to remain living and working there
  • Investors, entrepreneurs and self-employed people who want to start a business in Canada
  • People who have been nominated by a Canadian province or territory to settle and work there
  • People who currently live in Canada who have a family member wishing to join them.

When you know which group you fit in you’ll have to find out the specific requirements for applying for the corresponding Visa. For example if you are a skilled worker and want to move to Canada, this will generally be because you have relevant work experience, education, and a good knowledge of English and French. These will all help you to settle and succeed in Canada.

As part of your Canadian Visa application you’ll have to fill out a number of forms providing information on your background, skills, and family, plus undergo medical, criminal, and other background checks. These will all help the Canadian Immigration Services to establish your suitability for living and working in their country.

Ways of Immigrating to Canada

Filed under: Canadian Immigration,Immigration Requirements,Work Permit — New Thirteen @ 3:42 pm

Immigrating to Canada is a wonderful experience for any person irrespective of religion and race. The country is a multicultural society and a fabulous place to live. It offers opportunities to different immigrants, which are primarily comprised of Filipinos, Pakistanis, Indians, Chinese and Americans.

The government is pleased to welcome immigrants from different countries. In 2008, the government recorded over 245,000 skilled workers who immigrated to the country.

The Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) is a government body that assists people who want to immigrate to the country. It has defined some procedures and policies for those who want to live in Canada. One of the categories defined by this body is Skilled Worker. In this category, the individual should have at least 67 points to qualify. The points are based on adaptability, language skills, qualification, experience and age. In addition, the individual should have at least one year’s experience in any of the professions defined by the CIC.

You can immigrate to Canada through other methods, which include:

• Family Sponsorship. If you have a blood relative living in the country, this is the easiest way to become an immigrant.

• Work Permit. If a Canadian employer offers you a job, you can acquire a work permit and can become a permanent resident after two years.

• Study Permit. If you study in any college or university in Canada, the Canadian High Commission will issue a study permit to you. After finishing your study, the government will grant you immigrant status.

• Business Class. You can become an immigrant by investing heavy capital amounting to $250,000 CAD in the country.

• Refugee and Protection: The government can grant you immigrant status if you are under threat in your home country.

Moving to Australia

Filed under: Australia Work Visa,Immigration Requirements,Work Permit — New Thirteen @ 2:40 pm

Australia is a wonderful country which provides much for people who appreciate its lifestyle and culture. If you are thinking of moving to Australia, there is a lot of planning to do. For example, you must decide on what to bring with you. In case things do not work out as planned, you should set aside a sufficient amount of money for your move back home. Before leaving for Australia, you should learn about its culture, the people, and foods.

First of all, you must have a current passport. It may take several years to receive an immigrant visa, during which time this passport is your entry to all government processes. You may apply for a work visa if the company where you work has an office in Australia. If you can arrange to work for the company’s Australian branch the immigration process will be easier for you, since the company will be the one to apply for your visa. The work visa will last for a year, after which you must apply for a visa again.

You may apply for permanent residence after two years. All important paperwork must be brought with you, such as school diplomas, birth certificate, records and documentation of investments, marriage certificate, and proof of the amount of money you have in the bank. If you want to reside in certain areas of the country, you may apply for a Skilled Independent Regional Visa (SIR). This kind of visa encourages people to live in places which do not have a huge population.

Requirements for a South African Work Permit

Filed under: Immigration Requirements,South Africa Visas,Work Permit — New Thirteen @ 1:16 pm

South Africa is an attractive work destination, since it offers a lot of job opportunities. If one is planning to work there, one needs a South African work permit or visa and an employer’s guarantee of a job.

Applying for a South African work visa usually takes one week to 10 days. The application must be made by the employer on behalf of the applicant, and not the employee. Among other requirements, the employer needs to present a detailed labour contract, including all employment conditions and the entire period covered by the work permit, signed by both parties. The employer must also establish proof that the chosen foreigner is the best candidate for the job and that no local worker has been passed over in favour of hiring him.

In general, the documents needed to be included with a work visa application are: a birth certificate; application forms A, C, and BI-159; a marriage certificate if applicable; the worker’s employment contract with details about the designation, time, and salary of the employee; a medical certificate, proof of unsuccessful newspaper advertisements for the job and reasons establishing why a member of the local workforce was unsuited for the job; a translation of every certificate in English; and the employee’s testimonial that he or she is fit for the said job.

Other requirements include a passport valid for the entire period the employee wishes to stay in South Africa, a yellow fever vaccination certificate, and proof of enough funds to finance his stay.

Guidelines for obtaining an Australian Working Holiday Visa

Filed under: Australia Work Visa,Immigration Requirements,Work Permit — New Thirteen @ 3:02 pm

Australia is an affluent nation which is noted for providing excellent social programmes including top-rate investment and work opportunities. To those who wish to work and/or go on a holiday there, all you need to have is an Australian working holiday visa.

To qualify for an Australian working holiday visa you need to be around 18-30 years and you should have a passport from a country which has reciprocal agreements with Australia. This visa allows you to work in the primary industries in the country including construction, mining, and animal and plant cultivation for 12 months. Applicants for this visa must belong to a country such as the UK, Canada, Italy, South Korea, and Norway to name a few.

For those who have qualified for the Working Holiday Visa, the very first thing you must have is a Tax File Number (TFN). You must have this before you start working, otherwise you will be taxed at the rate of 48.5%, and that will definitely slash a large amount from your salary! If you have a TFN then expect to be charged a lower tax rate at 29%. To get a TFN, drop by the local taxation office with your passport and then fill out an application form. You may also need to open a bank account to enable your future employer to deposit your salary. Furthermore, you must have a mobile phone for making and receiving calls, especially when you are hunting for a job.

For those who want to apply for an Australian working holiday visa you may go directly to the Australian High Commission Office, and complete an online application form. You can also visit visasforaustralia.co.uk; this site handles business visas, tourist visas and working holiday visas for Australia.

South Africa Work Permit

Filed under: South Africa Visas,Work Permit — New Thirteen @ 2:03 pm

Receiving a work visa for South Africa requires a number of procedures similar to those in many other countries.

Work permits in South Africa may be issued to foreign nationals either by a quota system as a general work permit or on the basis of exceptional ability or skills. The most easily recognised is the General Work Permit, which requires a specific job offer from an employer before an application is made. In applying on the employee’s behalf, the employer must prove that the position was unsuccessfully advertised in South Africa and that no native South African citizen who is qualified for the position was passed over in favour of the foreign national. The Intra Company Transfer is a work visa that allows an employee to transfer between a foreign company and its branch in South Africa.

Foreign nationals are allowed to work and live in South Africa depending on the period of time that they had agreed upon with their employers based there; as long as they have the skills and experience suited for the profession that they are applying for. The temporary visa provided for them cannot be used for the purpose of residing permanently in South Africa; they can be permitted only to extend their length of stay. Usually, a work visa is awarded for up to one year. However, if the foreign national’s job continues, the visa can still be extended provided this is applied for before it expires. Extensions are normally granted on a yearly basis.

Australian migration

Filed under: Australia Work Visa,Immigration Requirements,Work Permit — New Thirteen @ 3:46 pm

In 2008, Australia, the world’s smallest continent, had a population of approximately 21 million. Nowadays, people have been considering Australian migration for varying purposes.

One good reason is the aggressive migration programme, which was introduced soon after World War I, and has continuously operated until today. Another reason is its excellent geography and climate.

The countryside of Australia is truly beautiful, and although the country’s temperatures can get very high, it is in the inland areas of the country where that usually occurs. Maritime influence has indeed benefited the country. Aside from that, skilled labour shortages exist in Australia.

Through its immigration policies, this problem in labour supply has been addressed by the country. It welcomes qualified individuals to work and live in Australia. Thus, this need for qualified workers resulted in the rapid growth of its economy. The robust economy of the country has also ensured a better quality of life, and vast economic opportunities for human development.

In the United Nation’s Human Development Index, Australia has always been included within the top 10. Another reason is its housing costs, which have remained affordable, unlike the escalating housing and rental costs that some of the world’s biggest economies have been struggling with.

A major research project was undertaken by the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute (AHURI) in the early 2000s for the purpose of evaluating housing affordability among Australians who have lower incomes. Another consideration by immigrants is Australia’s western-style system of education. Free education is provided in the primary and secondary schools, which are managed by the government.

The population growth of the country is credited mainly to Australian immigration. Indeed, Australia is considered as a nation founded on immigration.

UK Nationals Moving to US

Moving abroad is a very big step as there are a lot of things to consider concerning family, friends and other related issues. As a UK national, one has the right to work and live in any European Union or European Economic Area country. UK nationals will be given the same privilege as nationals of their destination country in social security matters, pay and working conditions. However, working further afield such as in the United States may entail different terms and conditions from the employment rights that they are enjoying in other EU-member states.

For those looking for new career opportunities or a fresh start, America remains a popular and attractive country. British citizens or any other national of an overseas country who desires to enter the US must first have either an immigrant visa for permanent residence or a non-immigrant visa for a temporary stay. The immigration law defines the type of visa that one must obtain in relation to one’s travel purpose. Although having a visa does not assure entry into the US, obtaining a US visa lets you to take a trip to a port-of-entry and ask for permission to enter the US from a Customs Border Protection officer of the Department of Homeland Security.

Nationals of certain countries, through the Visa Waiver Programme (VWP), can travel to the US for business and tourism for a time span of 90 days or less without a visa. Such a programme has been established for the purpose of removing any unnecessary hindrances to travel, permitting the Department of State to focus its consular resources in other areas and stimulating the industry of tourism. Prior to the admission, VWP travellers will be screened. The United Kingdom is one of the 27 countries currently participating in this programme.

Information on Australia immigration

Filed under: Australia Work Visa,Immigration Requirements,Work Permit — New Thirteen @ 12:50 pm

For highly skilled young individuals who wish to start a new life in another country, one popular destination is Australia, which has a strong economic status. The immigration of skilled workers is actively encouraged in this country. The points-based system is used for assessing those who desire to work in Australia. In this case, the skilled worker applicant and skilled migrant can use their work experience, language proficiency and other qualifications in order to satisfy the requirements for Australia immigration, as these criteria will be given particular points. There are other ways to obtain Australia immigration visas, including the Humanitarian Programmes and the Australian Family Migration.

In the years 2007 to 2008, there were approximately 152,800 places that the Migration Programme of Australia provided, with 102,500 of those under skilled migration, like the Australian Skilled Independent visa.

For those individuals who don’t have employers to sponsor them, the General Skilled Migration (GSM) programme can be considered, as long as the necessary skills that Australia needs to fill its labour shortages are possessed by the applicant. Only those over the age of 18 and under the age of 45, and who are capable of speaking good English can be considered qualified applicants. Recently, there have been modifications in the GSM programme. For those who can speak very good English, more points are added.

In certain cases when an applicant fails to reach the qualifying points, he should not be totally disappointed, as he can be placed in the reserve pool. In the future, this type of applicant may be considered if the required points in Australia Immigration are lowered.
